Toy Library

Here at the Children's Centre we have an extensive Toy Library full of a variety of toys for everyone to borrow. Families and professionals are welcome to borrow any of the toys featured within our toy library catalogue which is available at the Children's Centre. For further information please contact the Centre on 01924 302646.

What are the aims?

Toy Libraries exist to promote the principle that play does matter to the developing child. The Toy Library recognises that regular borrowing of appropriate toys encourages exploration and the development of new skills. This quality toy loan service will support play opportunities for all children in the District.

Who provides the Toy Library service?

Most Wakefield District Children's Centres provide a Toy Library Service. Contact your nearest Centre for more information on how to register and borrow items.

How can I borrow?

A folder of information will be available at the Children's Centres for you to browse and make your selection.  All toys and equipment must be returned to the Children's Centre from which they were borrowed.

All toys should be returned on time, in the condition in which they were loaned and remain the property of the Toy Library at all times. Toys that have been hired should not be sub let by the hirer.

What happens if a toy gets damaged or broken?

We recognise that toys may become accidentally damaged or broken during hire. Should this occur please contact the Children's Centre.

What checks are made to the toys prior to hire?

All Toys will be checked to ensure they are clean and in good working order prior to availability for loaning. We would ask that you return all items hired in the same condition in which they were borrowed.

What am I responsible for when hiring toys from the Toy Library Service?

Borrowers must ensure that all toys are used in accordance with either the manufacturers instructions or instructions supplied by the Children's Centre Staff. All toys must only be used for the purpose for which they were designed. Borrowers are responsible for ensuring children's safety while using toys loaned from the Toy Library.

Safety

The Children's Centre Toy Library cannot be held responsible for any harm to your child when using any of the toys borrowed. Please be aware when borrowing toys that you choose toys appropriate for the age and ability of your child.
